Conventional Water Heaters

Conventional water heaters are large tanks that require a constant heat source to ensure water is heated and warm. There are a couple of critical pros and cons to this type of water heater.

Pros

  • Less expensive installation: While the cost of installation depends on where it is in your home, traditionally, these water tanks are less expensive than alternatives.
  • Lower upfront cost: When compared to other types of water heaters, conventional water heaters have a lower upfront cost of installation.

Cons

  • Requires space: Due to needing a large tank, conventional water heaters require quite a bit of space.
  • Less energy efficient: Since this type of water heater requires a constant source of electricity, it is less energy efficient than alternative models.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters have been increasingly popular over the last couple of years. These water heaters use super-heated coils to provide hot water on demand. Just like the conventional water heater, there are pros and cons to this type of water heating system.

Pros

  • Lower monthly cost: These types of water heaters only create hot water when you need it, which means less energy consumption and a lower electricity bill.
  • Instant hot water: The super-heated coils in a tankless water heater heat the water quickly and make it readily available.

Cons

  • Higher initial cost: these types of water heaters are traditionally more expensive to install, but the month after month savings helped make up for it.
  • Limited hot water: if water demand in your home is too high, then the hot water may not flow and go cold.
